Darrell "Bubba" Wallace, Jr., Driver, #43 STP Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Bubba Wallace enters the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series as both a trendsetter and record breaker. Wallace will compete for Rookie of the Year honors behind the wheel of the famed STP No. 43 led by co-owner “The King” Richard Petty and with veteran Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer.
Wallace, 24, joins RPM after three seasons in the NASCAR XFINITY Series and two in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, where he is a six-time winner. In 2017, Wallace filled in for the injured Aric Almirola in the No. 43 Cup entry and finished 11th in his final start at Kentucky Speedway.
Wallace first burst onto the NASCAR scene in 2010, winning two NASCAR K&N Pro Series events. In his first full NCWTS season in 2013, Wallace turned heads with a victory at one of the circuit’s toughest tracks: Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. The young driver led 96 of 200 laps on the way to his first NASCAR National Series win, becoming the first African-American to win a NASCAR race on the national level in nearly 50 years.
Born in Mobile, Ala., Wallace and his family moved to North Carolina for his father’s work when he was just two years old. His interest in racing began by chance at the age of nine when his father purchased a motorcycle and took it in to a shop for improvements. The gentleman at the shop invited the family to a go-kart race. When Darrell, Sr. asked Darrell, Jr. if he’d like to give it a shot, he responded “yes” and was quickly hooked.
Wallace has also previously played basketball. He has become an accomplished photographer and frequently displays his talents through his Twitter (@bubbawallace) and Instagram (@bubbawallace) accounts. He enjoys paintball and playing video games. He currently resides in Davidson, N.C.
